Corner sites are perfect for installation of ADU units because they allow the most flexibility for providing light and ventilation throughout the entire unit.
At this site, the building was designated as a Class A Historic Resource. With buildings like this, Historic Preservation scrutinizes any changes to the exterior of the building, so we had to keep all the existing historic windows in place.
At the bedrooms, because the bottom of the existing windows were so high off the ground, we had to raise the floor in both bedrooms to comply with Fire code requirements. Thankfully, we had enough ceiling height to accommodate the raised floor.
The result was a beautiful 2-bedroom unit with lots of natural light and a sense of privacy despite being located on a busy intersection.
